Job Description:
The Senior DBA will be responsible for supporting and managing the enterprise-wide My SQL and Oracle Databases in production, development and test environments. They are part of a small team of DBAs that work on the installation, configuration and upgrade of My SQL databases and related products.

This person will be focused on My SQL and Oracle database performance tuning and monitoring. In addition, they will be part of an effort to re architect the current environment and participate in our efforts to make the database environment highly available.

The Senior DBA will also work closely with the development group on database design and implementation projects. • Responsible for day to day management of numerous My SQL and oracle databases on AIX and Linux in a growing and dynamic environment.
• Responsible for performance tuning and analysis of queries under different engines and recommend the appropriate engine for variety of applications.
• Responsible for monitoring database statistics and other application specific parameters to maintain performance of the system
• Responsible for analyzing the current environment, crafting and implementing a robust HA solution for the needs of an ever expanding business environment
• Responsible for capacity planning
• Responsible for developing and tuning database environments to ensure performance and service delivery expectations are met.
• Participates in the resolution of critical and complex design and implementation issues across projects.
• Writes shell scripts / PL/SQL / Perl scripts to extract data from relational sources and automate jobs

Primary Skill Set and Job Description:

A consultant, with strong communication skills—ideally with experience working with Health Care Insurer "Claims" data (not required, though)—with exceptional Base SAS / Macro / DATA step skills,

coupled with knowledge of data modeling, and experience working with EG and various ACCESS engines (and ideally some experience with DI Studio).

The consultant must be an expert SAS programmer with extensive experience using DATA step, PROC and MACRO Language.

The consultant must know the most efficient way of analyzing tremendous volumes of data originating from any number of RDBMS systems.

Additionally, the consultant should be able to use combinations of SAS functions and Procedures in novel ways for increased performance.

The following are a list of requirements broken out by topic.

• The consultant should be able to generate RDBMS specific SQL for explicit pass-through purposes when accessing source databases.

• The consultant should have experience with householding methodology, however since this is medical claims data the householding would be to the subscriber level that is submitting the multiple claims resulting from multiple doctor/hospital visits.

• The consultant should have extensive experience with SAS MACRO for efficiency, automation, code generation and conditional processing.

• The consultant should also have experience with SAS DI Studio and EG, being able to work within both environments. (Code nodes can be used within DI Studio in situations in which that would make things more efficient.)

The consultant will need to extract data from multiple large claims data sources, pulling them together to create four (4) State Mandated extract files / reports.

The consultant will need to create initial report extractions and then put a process in place for repeatable, scheduled jobs for future reporting needs.

The consultant must have experience working with large volumes of data. (18 months of data is required for each reporting period.)

The consultant should also have experience:

1. Leveraging and utilizing SAS/ACCESS Interface to Oracle and/or other RDBMSs on UNIX.

2. Leading or assisting with activities related to project definition, requirements, design and then development / implementation. (Requirements clarification and Design and approach, led by the consultant, will take place at the beginning of the project.)

The SAS consultant will also:
