جب میں اسٹوڈیو آ رہا تھا تو اس وقت میرے سامنے والی گاڑی جو ذرا زیادہ رفتار سے جا رہی تھی ، اس نے ایک سائیکل والے کو ٹکر مار دی ۔ چیں چاں کر کے ٹریفک رکی اور لوگوں کا مجمع سا لگ گیا ۔ کوئی کہہ رہا تھا دوڑ کر پانی لاؤ ۔ کوئی رکشہ والے کی بات کر رہا تھا کہ اسے فوراً ہسپتال لے چلو لیکن وہ بوڑھا شخص جان ہار گیا تھا ۔ میں وہاں یہی سوچنے لگا تھا کہ یہ بھی ہو سکتا تھا کہ یہ گاڑی ایک سیکنڈ کے ہزارویں حصے سے ذرا پہلے گذر جاتی یا بعد میں آتی تو شاید وہ بوڑھا شخص جس کی سائیکل پر کوئی ترکارہی وغیرہ لدی ہوئی تھی جان سے نہ جاتا ۔ لیکں خواتین و حضرات ! اس کا وقت طے تھا ۔ اس گاڑی نے اپنے مقررہ وقت پر وہاں آنا تھا اور اسے " ہٹ " کرنا تھا ۔ ہماری روز مرہ کی زندگی میں کئی واقعات ایسے رونما ہوتے ہیں کہ ہم کہتے ہیں کہ کاش ایسا نہ ہوتا ، کاش وہ اس طرح سے کر لیتا ۔ ہمارے گھروں میں عام طور پو عورتیں کہا کرتی ہیں کہ " میں نہ کہتی تھی رشتہ وہاں نہ کرنا ایسا تو ہونا ہی تھا " ۔

لیکن شاید ان سب باتوں میں قدرت کا قسمت کا بھی کوئی عمل دخل ہوتا ہے ۔ پچھلے دنوں میں اسلام آباد جا رہا تھا میں نے ایک ٹرک پر لکھا پڑھا کہ " وقت سے پہلے اور قسمت سے زیادہ نہیں ملتا " ۔ میرے نزدیک وہ ٹرک پر لکھی بات بہت بڑی تھی ۔ یہ حضرت امام غزالی ؒ کا قول ہے شاید ۔

[Pindi-Islamabad:94546] Excel Tip – Create a Drop Down list with Search Suggestions

We all use Google as a part of our daily routine. One of its feature is search suggestion, where Google acts smart and gives us a list of suggestions while we are typing.

Today in this blog post I will show you how to create this search suggestion in a drop down list in Excel.

I have a list of Top 20 countries by GDP. I want to create a search suggestion mechanism in a drop-down, which would display the matching options as I type in the search bar. Something as shown below:

Here is how you can do this:

Insert a Combo Box (ActiveX Control) from the developer tab [Read on how to get the Developer Tab]
Right click on the Combo Box and select Properties
In the properties dialogue box, make the following changes
- AutoWordSelect: False
- LinkedCell: B3
- ListFillRange: DropDownList
- MatchEntry: 2 – fmMatchEntryNone

Search Suggestion Combobox settings (Note that cell B3 is linked to the Combo Box, which means that anything you type in the Combo Box is entered in B3)

Go to Developer tab and click on Design Mode. This will enable you to enter text in the Combo Box
Put the following formula in cell F3 and drag it for the entire column (F3:F22)

    =--ISNUMBER(IFERROR(SEARCH($B$3,E3,1),""))

This formula returns 1 when the text in the Combo Box is there in the name of the country on the left. For example, if you type UNI, then only the values for United States and United Kingdom are 1 and all the remaining values are 0

Put the following formula in Cell G3 and drag it for the entire column (G3:G22)

    =IF(F3=1,COUNTIF($F$3:F3,1),"")

This formula returns 1 for the first occurrence where Combo Box text matches the country name, 2 for the second occurrence, 3 for the third and so on. For example, if you type UNI, G3 cell will display 1 as it matches United States, and G9 will display 2 as it matches United Kingdom. Rest of the cells will be blank.

Put the following formula in cell H3 and drag it for the entire column (H3:H22)

    =IFERROR(INDEX($E$3:$E$22,MATCH(ROWS($G$3:G3),$G$3:$G$22,0)),"")

This formula stacks all the matching names together without any blank cells in between them.

Now create a Named Range with the following formula

    =$H$3:INDEX($H$3:$H$22,MAX($G$3:$G$22),1)

And the final step. Right click on the Worksheet tab and select View Code. In the section on the right, paste the following code

Private Sub ComboBox1_Change()
ComboBox1.ListFillRange = "DropDownList"
ComboBox1.DropDown
End Sub

How to create a named range (for Step#6)

Go to Fomulas –> Name Manager
In the name manager dialogue box click New.
It will open a New Name dialogue box. In the Name Field enter DropDownList
In the Refers to Field enter the formula: =$H$3:INDEX($H$3:$H$22,MAX($G$3:$G$22),1)

Thats it!! You are all set with your own Google type Search bar for a drop down. For better look and feel, Cover the cell B3 with the Combo Box and hide all the columns with formula. You can now wow people with this amazing trick.

Why Should I Analyze My Thoughts:

Quality of thoughts determines the level of peace of mind. Negative thoughts result in negative acts which in turn causes distraction in emotions, unstable behavior, frequent mood swings, family complications, lack of trustworthiness, financial mistakes, professional brawls and so on. Healthy thoughts result in more positive outcomes, high happiness index, better health and so on. So all in all your thoughts are defining your present and your future.

There are several reasons for negative thoughts including but not limited to your circumstances, your brought up, financial situations, family conflicts, job and family complications. While you may not be able to fix these reasons, it is highly recommended to analyze your thoughts and mitigate the negative impact as much as possible. If you remove the impurities from your thoughts you would be able to have a positive, focused and prosperous mind.

How to Analyze My Thoughts:

If you have seen a big aquarium, you must have noticed that the fish keep wandering here and there continuously. From right to left, bottom to up, here and there; all day long. They don't seem to be getting any specific advantage while doing so. Same is the case with human mind. When your head is on the pillow, your brain starts wandering here and there. Several times it is processing the thoughts which shouldn't be the point of concern at all. Though fish do not know this but you can control your wandering of brain by picking up a specific thought/subject and ask these questions:

a)    Why am I thinking about this subject? Is this subject related to others? Why am I thinking negative about someone? I should mind my own business.
b)    What exactly is the issue? Is this something impacting (or going to impact) me or my family? Can I define my issue/question in one sentence clearly so that I can focus on the solution?
c)    How: can I resolve this issues? Is this doable? If not, can I take advice from others?. If I have the solution then what are the steps which needs to be taken?

How Can I Improve the standard of my Thoughts:

a) Avoid thinking about unnecessary things specially related to others. Mind your own business. Posses a focused mind.

b) Stop comparing yourself to others. It's an insult to yourself. You are a unique soul and you are independent on your living, your decisions and your destiny.

c) Don't think of monetary gains too much. Excessive love for money and assets is the root of most of stresses. Work on your real wealth.

d) Develop the habit of forgiving and letting things go off. If you are keeping the grudge in your brains for longer durations, you are killing yourself. Stress is a slow poison which deepens its roots your brain and destroy your physical and mental health.

e) Read quality quotes or articles on positivity and try to absorb the message. This will kill the germs of negativity.

f) Practice the habit of gratitude. Stop complaining, criticizing and blaming. When a negative thought comes in, convert it to positive by looking at the positive side of the issue.

g) Instead of thinking about your 'wants' too much, think about your needs. This will reduce the magnitude of your focus because usually needs are limited but wants are too many. Adapt simple life style as it reduces unnecessary socio-economical issues.

[Pindi-Islamabad:94544] Daily Qur'an & Hadith 24 Dec 2013 (20 Safar 1435)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[27].Surah Al-Naml [The Ants]

Ayat 44. It was said to Queen of Saba: "Enter As-Sarh" [(a glass surface with water underneath it) or a palace], but when she saw it, she thought it was a pool, and she (tucked up her clothes) uncovering her legs, Sulaiman PBUH (Solomon) said: "Verily, it is Sarh [(a glass surface with water underneath it) or a palace] paved smooth with slab of glass." She said: "My Lord! Verily, I have wronged myself, and I submit (in Islam, together with Sulaiman PBUH (Solomon), to Allah, the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)."

Tafseer of Surah Al Naml (The Ants) Ayat 44. She was asked to enter the lofty Palace: but when she saw it, she thought it was a lake of water, and she (tucked up her skirts), uncovering her legs. He said: "This is but a palace paved smooth with slabs of glass." She said: "O my Lord! I have indeed wronged my soul: I do (now) submit (in Islam), with Solomon, to the Lord of the Worlds." Queen of Saba, having been received with honour on her arrival, and having accepted the transformation of her throne, placed presumably in an outer building of the Palace, is asked to enter the great Palace itself. Its floor was made of slabs of smooth polished glass, that glistened like water. She thought it was water, and tucked up her clothes to pass through it, showing her bare feet and ankles. This was a very undignified position for a woman, especially one of the position of a Queen. Solomon immediately undeceived her, and told her the real facts, when she felt grateful, and joined herself with Solomon in praising Allah. In symbolic language, a new entrant into the Palace of divine knowledge, may yet carry in his mind many of the illusions of the lower world, the transparent crystal of Truth he may yet mistake for the unstable water of worldly vanity, which soils the vestments of those who paddle in it. This leads to many undignified positions and mistakes. But a gentle leader points out the truth. Instead of resenting it, the new entrant is grateful, acknowledges her own mistake freely and frankly, and heartily joins with the Teacher in the worship of Allah, the Source of all truth and knowledge.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Adi bin Hatim At-Tai (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) say: "He who has taken an oath (to do something) but found something else better than that (which brings him closer to Allah), then he should do that which is better in piety (and he should expiate for the breaking of oath)".

[Muslim Book 015 Hadith # 4057].

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Al-Naml Ayat 44 “She said: "My Lord! Verily, I have wronged myself, and I submit (in Islam” This Hadith emphasizes the importance of having the fear of Allah. So much so that if somebody has made a vow to commit some sin he should break it, arrange for its expiation and keep himself away from that sin or any other act that contravenes the fear of Allah.
