[discussion_vu] Installing VU Exam Software for Overseas students on Windows 7 BY Zeeshan

Installing VU Exam Software for Overseas students on Windows 7
The VU exam software for overseas student 'OverseasClient V1.0' is installed only on Windows XP. But like me, many overseas students have Windows 7 on their laptops. We may will not like to install Windows XP after using the new Windows 7 operating system. Then what to do to install VU exam software?  Here is the solution:

Option 1: Install two operating system one Windows 7 (that you already have) and Windows XP. But in laptops Win XP will not be installed in Dual mode because hard disk will not be detectable by XP, at least of my laptop. Solution may be to change BIOS settings.  I did not take risk to do this and decided to find a way to use exam software on Windows 7. If you would like, please consult Google and expert before doing any changes to BIOS settings.

Option2:  You can use XP mode on Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate editions only. XP mode is not supported on Windows 7 Home. If you have Home edition then you have to upgrade to professional or ultimate. If you are thinking if I have to upgrade the why not to XP? My opinion is we need XP for exam only. Most of the software requires Windows 7 now. SO choice is yours.
Follow the following steps:

1)    Open the following link in internet explorer:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx

2)    On 2nd step, select your operating system and language.

3)    Then download and install the 'Windows XP mode', 'Windows Virtual Machine' and 'Windows XP update mode'

4)    Once   all three installed a wizard will start automatically to configure virtual machine. Wizard will also describe how to use XP mode so read the detail  carefully.

5)    Once configured you will see a fully fledged XP desktop window.

6)    All of your drives in Windows 7 will be access able from XP Virtual machine automatically but with meaning full different name like' C on ABC Computer'.

7)    Your internet connection will also be used by XP Virtual machine so you don't have to configure internet again. Just connect to internet in Windows 7 and then use in XP Virtual machine.

8)    You have to install MS office 2003 and VU exam software in virtual machine. For this you have to first copy the setup of both from your Windows 7 drive to Virtual machine drive or desktop.

9)    Now you have to configure your external web cam to XP Virtual machine. You will see a bar on top with options of 'Action, USB and Ctrl+Alt+Del'.

Attach your external camera with your computer. Please be sure that camera is already working fine with Windows 7.

To add camera in virtual machine click on 'USB' on the top most bar, then select your camera from the list. After few minutes your camera will be attached.

If you want to de-attach the camera then select the camera again from list.

10)    How to use exam software, for this you have to consult document provided by VU.

HAVE A NICE DAY and GOOD LUCK FOR EXAMS.

You can use XP Virtual machine for any software that only install on XP.
