Primary Skill Set and Job Description

Base SAS Programmer with strong understanding of the "Commercial" aspects of the Pharmaceutical industry

(not drug development or drug submissions, but rather commercial Pharma),

•               Understand the commercial aspects of the Pharmaceutical industry

o              Influences on physician prescription writing habits,

o              Rebate and formulary negotiations with managed care payers,

o              Pharmaceutical promotional spending.

•               Strong business acumen and have familiarity, knowledge and experience working with and leveraging Commercial Pharmaceutical data sources including:

o              prescriber data and sales data from IMS or WKH (Wolters Kluwer Health, a competitor of IMS with similar data),

o              WKH DCL data for payer data (which keeps track of the number of healthcare plan scripts that are being filled for various drugs),

o              patient procedure data from SDI or IMS (which allows one to look at the drugs patients are taking via anonymous patient level data),

o              IMS HCOS for Affiliations (which may be the most complicated data set  as part of this data mix—this involves understanding the associations between physicians and hospitals and how hospitals may influence a physician's writing habits; it may also incorporate affiliations between Doctors in a group practice – it requires an understanding of all these connections and how they may influence a physician's writing habits), and

o              non-retail sales data (provided by data supplier IMS DDD, where this represents sales going into a hospital / clinic  capturing the number of pills that are purchased, but not the actual scripts being written).

•               Medium to advanced Base SAS reporting / programmer, working within PC SAS submitting batch programs to UNIX.  (Minimum 3 years' experience in SAS programming.)

•               Combine SAS programming knowledge with commercial Pharma data knowledge and pharmaceutical industry domain knowledge to work independently and make meaningful conclusions about GSK's commercial business.

•               Based on GSK reporting and analysis requests, consultant must be able to extract data, manipulate the data, create reports and then create and deliver insights to business and presentations via Excel and PowerPoint.  (Sample report requests include: (1) defining how many GSK accounts cover 80% of their business, or (2) evaluating profitable accounts by performing calculations such as "sales – promotion investment = profit or loss.")

•               Work with data that is already in SAS data sets; however, the consultant must be prepared to and experienced with extracting, sorting, summarizing, joining and merging pharma data from multiple tables, leveraging a Physician ID common within all tables.

•               DATA step and/or SQL programming skills and experience required, along with use of PROC MEANS, FREQ and EXPORT, and SAS MACRO is a must!

•               Ability to think innovatively and adapt analytic approaches and applications.

•               Comfortable communicating results and presenting findings within Excel and PowerPoint.  That is, no graphing will be done in SAS – the consultant will import SAS data into Excel and produce graphs within Excel.  (Advanced MS Excel skills a plus.)

•               Commercial pharmaceutical industry and data knowledge allow the candidate to contribute within a week of their start date.

•               Ability to work on several projects simultaneously and under challenging timelines.

Thanks & Regards,

Gopal
