پھر جب اردگرد کی عورتیں جمع ہو کر جواں سالہ میت پر رونے لگیں تو بڑھیا کو بھی جیسے اپنے بیٹے کی موت کا یقین سا آگیا لیکن مامتا اس صدمے کو ٹھنڈے پیٹوں کیسے برداشت کر لیتی، بیٹے سے محبت کی دیوانگی نے ایک اور راہ سجھائی "خبر دار جو کسی نے میرے بیٹے کو غسل دیا اور کفن پہنایا، میں جاتی ہوں طبیبوں کے پاس، اپنے بیٹے کی زندگی کی دوا لانے کے لیے۔ " سب کو یقین ہو چلا تھا کہ بے چاری ماں اپنا ذہنی توازن کھو بیٹھی ہے بھلا زندگی واپس لو ٹا دینے والی دوا بھی کہیں سے ملتی ہے ؟ لیکن مامتا کو کون سمجھائے ۔

"اے لوگو! خدا کے لیے کسی طبیب حاذق کا پتہ بتاؤ مجھے …" عورت کہے جارہی تھی۔

ایک نوجوان نے غم کی ماری ماں کو ساتھ لیا اور شہر کے تمام طبیبوں کے پاس باری باری گیا۔ ہر ایک کی زبان پر ایک جملہ تھا "بھلا مرنے والوں کو بھی کبھی کسی دوا سے زندگی ملی ہے ؟"

لیکن یہ جملہ ماں کے غم کا مداوا کیسے کرتا؟ اسے تو اس دم اپنا آپ پوری کائنات میں سب سے دکھی لگ رہا تھا۔

"ماں جی! ایک طبیب رہ گیا ہے جو شہر کے آخری حصے میں رہتا ہے آئیں اس کے پاس چلتے ہیں شاید وہ کوئی ترکیب بتائے ۔"

نوجوان غم کی ماری ماں کو لیے بوڑھے طبیب کے پاس پہنچا ۔ ساری داستان سن کر طبیب کے جھریوں زدہ چہرے پر مسکراہٹ ابھر آئی ۔

"اے غم زدہ عورت! تیرے لیے خوشخبری ہے میرے پاس ایسی دوا ہے جو تیرے بیٹے کی زندگی کو واپس لوٹا دے گی لیکن اس کے لیے تجھے ایک کام کرنا ہوگا۔"

ماں کی آنکھوں میں امید کی کرن چمکی ۔

"کیا کام؟ میں اپنے بیٹے کی زندگی خاطر کچھ بھی کر سکتی ہوں۔"

"اے عورت ! جا اور شہر کے کسی ایسے گھرانے سے مٹھی بھر اناج لے کر آ جس کا کوئی فرد موت کا شکار نہ ہوا ہو "

جہاں دیدہ طبیب نے اپنی سفید بھنویں سکیڑتے ہوئے کہا ۔

"اپنے بیٹے کی زندگی کے لیے میں یہ شہر تو کیا پوری دنیا چھان ماروں گی ۔ عورت بڑے عزم سے اٹھی اور شہر کی گلیوں میں پھرنے لگی ۔

شام کا دھندلکا پھیلنے کو تھا جب وہی عورت کمزور قدموں سے چلتی ہوئی طبیب کے دواخانے پر پہنچی ۔ طبیب اسی کا منتظر تھا؛ "لائی ہو اناج ؟ "

عورت سسک اٹھی۔

"طبیب صاحب! آپ نے میری آنکھوں پر پڑا ہوا پردہ اتار دیا میں اس غم میں اکیلی نہیں مجھے کوئی گھر ایسا نہیں ملا جس کا کوئی فرد موت کا شکار نہ ہوا ہو۔"

عورت کی آواز میں عجیب سی بے چارگی تھی ۔

"چلتی ہوں ، بیٹے کے کفن دفن کا بندوبست کرنا ہے رات گہری ہونے سے پہلے اس کام کو ختم بھی تو کرنا ہوگا۔"

وہ اٹھی اور تیز قدموں سے چلتے ہوئی باہر نکل گئی طبیب کی آنکھوں سے دو موتی ٹپکے اور گھنی ڈاڑھی میں جذب ہو گئے ۔
