MUTHASABHIHATH VERSES
He it is Who has sent down to thee the Book: in it are verses basic or fundamental (of established meaning); they are the foundation of the Book: others are allegorical. But those in whose hearts is perversity follow the part thereof that is allegorical seeking discord and searching for its hidden meanings but no one knows its hidden meanings except Allah and those who are firmly grounded in knowledge say: "We believe in the Book; the whole of it is from our Lord"; and none will grasp the Message except men of understanding.
Quran: 3 - 7
Allah (SWT) gave us the Glorious Quran as a guidance for mankind. He wanted people to understand the clear path to heaven, success, and victory, and He says in the Holy Quran; I made the Quran most easy for people to understand, and to follow without any confusion. Certainly, Allah (SWT) did not give us the Quran to confuse people.
Yusuf Ali Do they not consider the Qur'an (with care)? Had it been from other than Allah they would surely have found therein much discrepancy (mistakes).
Pickthall Will they not then ponder on the Qur'an? If it had been from other than Allah they would have found therein much incongruity.
Quran: 4-82
Yusuf Ali And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition?
Pickthall And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembered?
Quran: 54-17
At this Juncture I want to say this, In other words, Allah did not create anyone, man or Jinn destined for hell. He created everyone for paradise including Satan and He says in the Quran; it is their own hands which they send , which will determine as to whether they are going to heaven or hell. It is total freedom for mankind and Jinn to choose what they want and the Quran (revelations) and Hadees (Prophets ways) are the only way to get to success and paradise. Though He gave us the Quran as a clear guidance, He specifically says there is no force on anybody to follow it; in their own freedom if they follow it, they would be tremendously victorious. If they contradict it and follow the ways of Satan, it is still their own freedom but they will be destined to a great destruction. So being the case, this above verse tells us about Mutasyabihath; Allah says, do not take the confusing Ayats and go around spreading Fithna. At one time, in the Quran, there were many verses which was impossible for the Sahabaas or their followers to understand. For example, Allah says, I created the world out of smoke (gas).
Then turned He to the heaven when it was smoke, and said unto it and unto the earth: Come both of you, willingly or loth. They said: We come, obedient.
Quran: 41-11
At the early time, it was impossible for people to understand that this Earth was created out of gas; but Allah alone knew its meaning at that time; but today unlike the Sahabas, we too understand crystal clearly that the earth was at one time a gaseous mass. It was much much later when science discovered the Big Bang Theory and that too from the Quran that the entire planets, stars, and everything in the Universe was a great gaseous mass and the Earth too was no exception. It was a great mass of gas which was spinning in the Universe. It took thousands and thousands of years to cool and condense into solid rocks, pebbles, soil, and clay and water. It was only after that, Allah created the life like plants and animals and humans on Earth. So, if in the early stages, man tried to understand this, he would have never understood this, and it would have been a great confusion. So, Allah says do not take these Ayats which are confusing to you.
He especially created the Quran for humans and Jinn; and it was definitely for the humans and Jinn to understand and certainly it was not meant for Allah to understand. If Allah alone knew the meaning of the Quran, it was absurd to give it to mankind and Jinn to follow it. So, Allah (SWT) means by this mutasyabihath (confusing verses) that it was meant for people and they would definitely understand it at sometime or the other, especially people of understanding would clearly understand it. There is practically nothing in the Quran which is confusing at this stage of the Quran. Everything has been sorted out like sea having barriers, which they do not transgress. For the earliest generations, these verses and like-verses would have been very confusing; they would have not understood anything, so Allah says them to leave it and go forward with that which they understand for Allah knows its deep sense and deep meaning. Certainly, no one would understand Quran in its deepest sense as Allah understands, but everyone can understand the theme of what Allah says, and it is sufficient for them to lead a righteous life and seek victory. For men of understanding the deeper meaning would be revealed, and it would be a glorious joy to them but certainly Allah did not reveal the Quran to confuse anybody, and there are practically no confusing verses at present in the Quran, if there be Insha Allah the future generation would understand it clearly as we understand so many ayaths crystal clearly which the Sahabas did not understand. Hence, the Quran is meant for human beings and Jinn and everything in it would be understood in a crystal-clear sense without any confusion.
