[Pindi-Islamabad:94363] Signs of Weak Faith - How to Increase Faith

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem

Assalam Alaikum Wa Rahmath Ullahi Wa Barkatahu

Signs of weak Faith :

·  Committing Sins And Not Feeling Any Guilt.

·  Having A Hard Heart (no sign of mercy and petty when it comes to own benefit/loss).

·  Being Materialistic too much.

·  Feeling Too Lazy To Do Good Deeds, e.g. Being Late For Salat

·  No Desire To Read The Quran.

·  Neglecting The Sunnah.

·  Having Mood Swings, For instance Being Upset about petty things and bothered and irritated most of the time.

·  Not feeling anything when hearing verses from the Quran, for example when Allah warns us of punishments and His promise of glad tidings.

·  Finding difficulty in remembering Allah and making dhikr.

·  Not feeling bad when things are done against the Shariah.

·  Desiring status and wealth too much.

·  Being mean and miserly, i.e. not wanting to part with wealth.

·  Feeling pleased when things are not progressing for others.

·  Not concerned with whether something is haram or halal.

·  Making fun of people who do simple good deeds, like cleaning the mosque.

·  Not feeling concerned about the situation of Muslims.

·  Not feeling the responsibility to do something to promote Islam.

·  Becoming engrossed and very involved with dunya, worldly things, i.e. feeling bad only when losing something in terms of material wealth.

·  Becoming engrossed and obsessive about ourselves.

How To increase Our Faith Then ?

·  Remember death and qabr regularly.

·  Do more and more zikr (rememberence of Allah swt).

·  Think of Allah's and Prophet's pleasure in every action we do.

·  Recite and ponder on the meanings of the Quran. Tranquility then descends and our hearts become soft. To get optimum benefit, remind yourself that Allah is speaking to you. People are described in different categories in the Quran; think of which one you find yourself in.

·  Realize the greatness of Allah. Everything is under His control. There are signs in everything we see that points us to His greatness. Everything happens according to His permission. Allah keeps track and looks after everything, even a black ant on a black rock on a black moonless night.

·  Make an effort to gain knowledge, for at least the basic things in daily life e.g. how to make wudu properly. Know the meanings behind Allah's names and attributes. People who have taqwa are those who have knowledge.

·  Attend gatherings where Allah is remembered. In such gatherings we are surrounded by angels.

·  We have to increase our good deeds. One good deed leads to another good deed. Allah will make the way easy for someone who gives charity and also make it easy for him or her to do good deeds. Good deeds must be done continuously, not in spurts.

·  Remember the different levels of akhirah, for instance when we are put in our graves, when we are judged, whether we will be in paradise or hell.

·  Make dua, realize that we need Allah. Be humble. Don't covet material things in this life.

·  Our love for Subhana Wa Ta'Ala must be shown in actions. We must hope Allah will accept our prayers, and be in constant fear that we do wrong. At night before going to sleep, we must think about what good we did during that day and sins we committed. (gheebat, lie, back biting, etc)

·  Realize the effects of sins and disobedience- one's faith is increased with good deeds and our faith is decreased by bad deeds. Everything that happens is because Allah wanted it. When calamity befalls us- it is also from Allah. It is a direct result of our disobedience to Allah.

[Pindi-Islamabad:94362] Cleaning the Inner You

By Junaid Tahir

While reading a book about raising kids I started making the list of unethical behavioural demonstrations which the children should be taught about and prevented right from their childhood. Later I thought that it's not only kids who are required to be taught such teachings but the adults too are essentially required to clean their mental engines which are having a lot of garbage and was never cleaned since ages.

My friend, it's very logical that you take home cleaning matter very seriously. You clean the cupboards, home corners, lounge, kitchens and drawers with a lot of attention and care so that no dust or impurities are left which might cause health issues or cause you disrespect in front of your guests however you don't care about cleaning your inner selves.  As a matter of fact you can rely on others to clean your home but you cannot depend on others to cleanse you. Its only you, yes only you who can clean the garbage in your brain, heart and soul.

Well, after I made my list, I started searching for the baseline definitions and advices against each immoral act and I was able to compile the below table.
By the way, a very important thing I noticed that most of the behaviours like anger, back biting, bad mouthing, brawls, cursing, lying and calling by names happen because people do not have strong control on what they speak hence let me say that tongue is the king because it is responsible for your outlook no matter how good you are at heart.  A lot of problems and complications can be avoided only if people start thinking on what to speak, where to speak and how to speak. Anyways, below is the list and the details I compiled:

Ethic
Reference
Anger
Allah's Apostle Peace Be Upon Him said, "The strong is not the one who overcomes the people by his strength, but the strong is the one who controls himself while in anger."
Words once spoken cannot be taken back. Anger causes Long term impact on relationships. When you are in anger, your tongue works faster than brain which puts you on high risk of doing mistakes. This is why Islam forbids anger.
back Biting
"…nor let some of you backbite others. Does one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? But you abhor it…" (Surah Hujurat 49: 12)"
When you back bite you are on the risk of spreading false information and eventually you would be in bad books of others. The bad words spoken have a ripple effect because they will get spreaded in society very quickly hence the respect of a person gets converted to insult which is very big sin.
Bad mouthing
Risk of losing respect and friends. People would prefer not to talk to you and would stay away from you. Read this story
Beating
A heinous ethical crime whether the object is your kids or any other society member. Read this story
Brawls
The Prophet said, "The most hated person in the sight of Allah is the most quarrelsome person." Volume 3, Book 43, Number 637  (Bukhari)
Bribery
The Prophet (peace be on him) said, "Allah's curse is on the one who offers the bribe and on the judge who accepts it." (Reported by Ahmad, al-Tirmidhi, and Ibn Hibban in his Sahih.)
Calling by Names
"and do not defame one another by using bad names. How bad it is after having true faith that a person (does these acts) but does not turn in repentance (to Allah) so then surely it is these people who are the oppressors"
Carelessness
The Prophet said, "All of you are guardians and are responsible for your wards. The ruler is a guardian and the man is a guardian of his family; the lady is a guardian and is responsible for her husband's house and his offspring; and so all of you are guardians and are responsible for your wards." Volume 7, Book 62, Number 128 Bukhari
Cruelty
I heard the Prophet saying, "Shall I tell you of the people of Paradise? They comprise every poor humble person, and if he swears by Allah to do something, Allah will fulfill it; while the people of the fire comprise every violent, cruel arrogant person." Volume 8, Book 78, Number 651 Bukhari
Cursing
The Prophet was not one who would abuse (others) or say obscene words, or curse (others), and if he wanted to admonish anyone of us, he used to say: "What is wrong with him, his forehead be dusted!" Volume 8, Book 73, Number 58
"O women! Give alms, as I have seen that the majority of the dwellers of Hell-fire were you (women)." They asked, "Why is it so, O Allah's Apostle ?" He replied, "You curse frequently and are ungrateful to your husbands. Volume 1, Book 6, Number 301 Bukhari
Extravagancy
"Allah has hated for you three things: 1. Vain talks, (useless talk) that you talk too much or about others. 2. Wasting of wealth (by extravagance) 3. And asking too many questions (in disputed religious matters) or asking others for something (except in great need). Volume 2, Book 24, Number 555 Bukhari
Gambling
"Whoever swears saying in his oath. 'By Al-Lat and Al'Uzza,' should say, 'None has the right to be worshipped but Allah; and whoever says to his friend, 'Come, let me gamble with you,' should give something in charity."
Volume 8, Book 78, Number 645 Bukhari
Jealousy
"Beware of suspicion, for suspicion is the worst of false tales; and do not look for the others' faults and do not spy, and do not be Jealous of one another, and do not desert (cut your relation with) one another, and do not hate one another; and O Allah's worshipers! Be brothers (as Allah has ordered you!") - Volume 8, Book 73, Number 90 Bukhari
Misery
Every day two angels come down from Heaven and one of them says, 'O Allah! Compensate every person who spends in Your Cause,' and the other (angel) says, 'O Allah! Destroy every miser.' " Volume 2, Book 24, Number 522 Bukhari
Spying
Allah's Apostle said, 'Beware of suspicion, for it is the worst of false tales and don't look for the other's faults and don't spy and don't hate each other, and don't desert (cut your relations with) one another O Allah's slaves, be brothers!" Volume 8, Book 80, Number 717 Bukhari
Suspecion
"Beware of suspicion, for suspicion is the worst of false tales; and do not look for the others' faults and do not spy, and do not be Jealous of one another, and do not desert (cut your relation with) one another, and do not hate one another; and O Allah's worshipers! Be brothers (as Allah has ordered you!") - Volume 8, Book 73, Number 90 Bukhari
Telling Lies
The Prophet said, "Truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise. And a man keeps on telling the truth until he becomes a truthful person. Falsehood leads to Al-Fajur (i.e. wickedness, evil-doing), and Al-Fajur (wickedness) leads to the (Hell) Fire, and a man may keep on telling lies till he is written before Allah, a liar." Volume 8, Book 73, Number 116 Bukhari

Once again, I urge all of the readers to have solid control on your tongue and apply Socrates principal for all their communication needs.

[Pindi-Islamabad:94361] Frustration and Annoyance

There is nothing that makes you frustrated.

Any frustration you experience is the result of

your own choice to react with frustration.

There is nothing that makes you annoyed.

Any annoyance you experience comes about because

you have decided to be annoyed.

You can choose to be annoyed,

frustrated, angry, and spiteful.

You can also choose not to be.

Imagine how effective you could be if there was nothing that annoyed you.

That level of effectiveness is yours to choose, right here, right now.

All sorts of things will happen in your world today.

You can let them get to you, and annoy and frustrate you,

or you can choose to follow your own path.

You have the power to be free of frustration, free of annoyance,

free to accomplish and enjoy life. Choose that freedom today.

[Pindi-Islamabad:94360] Zoom In and Zoom out Technique for Professionals

By Junaid Tahir

On the mobile phone or camera, the zoom in feature is used to take the picture of a specific object. You ignore other objects because your point of focus is this particular object. On the contrary, the zoom out feature is used in order to capture more wider area so as to cover more and more objects. This is a picture taking technique but do you know that we use the same technique with our brain in order to make mental pictures about objects and people? Here are a couple of examples:

  1.  You have been very supportive to this friend in his/her tragic moments in the past so many times however couldn't met his/her expectations at a specific difficult situation and then he/she told you that you are the most irresponsible or disloyal person. At this particular moment your friend has 'Zoomed-in' too much in your personality that he/she is only able to see and judge about your carelessness, incapability or betrayal trait. However, ideally, he should 'Zoom-out' look at your overall personality and remember the things which you have done for him/her in the past. In this case, his Zoom-In attitudes is very much inappropriate and you are not happy about it.
  2.  Your friend told you that tires making company ABC-Tires produce worst tires as he had recently tire burst case within three months of purchase. Based on this you made the perception that this tire company is most awful company. You ignore the fact that this company is selling thousands of tires daily. If their fault rate was this much high, the company should have been banned by the authorities. Also, you ignored that your friend might have driven his car on such an area where some sharp thing (blade, pin, nails etc) has caused the tire burst. So basically you fell under the trap of same Zoom-In thing. By the way, I am not saying to ignore the tire burst thing completely; what I am emphasizing on is that don't make an All-Positive or All-Negative image about someone or something. Give proper weight to all associated factors to conclude things.

Specifically for professionals here are two examples about using the Zoom-in Zoom-out tool.
1-    Use the zoom-in tool when you intend to draw your management's attention to a specific part of the large project which they are ignoring. This is to help them understand the low level details of the project. For example, if the boss asking that your project is over-budgeted then you can elaborate the micro level expenses of the project using Zoom-In.
2-   Use the zoom-out tool to let your field staff understand the big picture of the project so that he can perform their activities with more maturity. This will improve their mental horizon too. Article written by Junaid Tahir

Overall it is highly recommended to use this tool whenever you are going to conclude something whether small or big. Remeber, small mistakes sometimes lead to big disasters. Hence, carefully analyze the situation and see if you are too much zoomed in or too much zoomed out? Make sure your conclusions are based on fair assessment of the situation. Also remember that sometimes you don't even have to zoom-in or zoom-out since you are already at neutral level to judge the situation.

[Pindi-Islamabad:94359] Daily Qur'an & Hadith 03 Dec 2013 (29 Muharam 1435)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[26].Surah Al-Naml [The Ants]

Ayat 11. "Except him who has done wrong and afterwards has changed evil for good, then surely, and Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. Tafseer of Surah Al Naml (The Ants) Ayat 11. "But if any have done wrong and have thereafter substituted good to take the place of evil, truly, I am Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. His slaying the Egyptian, however defensible from certain aspects, was yet something from his past that had to be washed off, and Allah, Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful, did it out of His abounding Grace. Nay, more; he was given a pure, Radiant Hand, as a Sign of his personal transformation, as stated in the next verse.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abu Dharr (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah[SAWW](PBUH) said, "Allah, the Exalted, and Glorious, said; 'O My slaves, were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you to stand in one place and make a request of Me, and were I to give everyone what he requested, that would not decrease what I have, any more than a needle decrease the sea if put into it. O My slaves, it is but your deeds that I reckon for you and then recompense you for, so let him who finds good (i.e., in the Hereafter) praise Allah and let him who finds other than that blame no one but himself.'''.

[Muslim Book 032, Chapter 13, Hadith # 6246].

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Al-Naml Ayat 11. "Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful" This Hadith mentions the Power and Majesty of Allah and stresses that one should supplicate Allah for everything that one needs. From guidance to sustenance, the treasures of everything are with Him - the treasures which are unlimited and any withdrawal from them does not make any reduction in them. Similar is the case of His Sovereignty; it is not affected even if the whole universe supports or opposes them. Thus, it is in the interest of man that he should dedicate himself entirely to Allah and beg all his needs from Him and Him Alone.
