Position: Senior BackEnd Web Engineer,

Location: DULLES, VA

Duration: 6 Months

 

Complete Description:

• Prototype, develop, design, and test product server side features as defined while adhering to company standards

• Design and develop for high performance, heavy traffic, and high availability. You must know when, why, and how to design a cache, optimize a query, and eliminate a bottleneck

• Be an active participant in an Agile/SCRUM environment

• Break down projects into tasks with time estimation

• Proactively identify and communicate issues

• Work in a team environment with other developers, designers, product managers, business analysts

• Troubleshoot technical and functional issues

• Collaborate with product managers to define product requirements

 

Responsibilities

•             Work as part of the technical team that designs, develops, implements and maintains the Clients Media Technology Team systems

•             Work closely with UI/Design and other development teams to ensure successful implementation and integration of dashboards and interactive web applications

•             Converts specifications and requirements into functional web pages and works with the back-end developers to create database-driven templates for functional web pages.

•             Well versed in behavior related to the use of different DOCTYPE declarations, character encoding, W3C standards compliance and accessibility issues

•             Understand and adhere to industry and the clients best practices for delivering fast loading web sites

•             Is an active participant in an Agile/SCRUM environment

•             Break down projects into tasks with time estimation

•             Proactively identify and communicate issues

•             Work in a team environment with other developers, designers, product managers, business analysts 

 

Qualifications

•             Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field with a minimum  of 6 years related experience in web site development

•             6+ years experience in front end web development using templating systems (JSP, JSTL, Servlets a plus), HTML, XHTML, CSS, AJAX, XML, Javascript/jQuery, and PhP

•             An understanding of how design affects web sites and comprehensive knowledge of developing interactive web pages (CSS and HTML markup)

•             Knowledge of cross-browser/cross-platform compatibility

•             Strong analytical and problem solving skills

•             Experience with performance and optimization standards, performance tuning following industry techniques (e.g. use of Sprites and  JQuery libraries)

•             Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues across browsers (e.g. Javascript, jQuery, CSS and HTML).

•             Demonstrated understanding of backend services and environments for developing web pages (Unix, Apache, Tomcat, FTP and server architecture).

•             Experience developing in a standards-based environment using version control software (SVN or CVS and IDEs such as Eclipse or NetBeans)

•             Ability to work independently with limited supervision and learn quickly in a dynamic environment

•             Experience with the following a plus: CSS 3.0, HTML 5, Agile, Adobe Photoshop, Flash
