Responsibilities:  Design and development of J2EE and multiple WebSphere development projects that enable internal applicatons and customer self-service through browser based applications.

Description

We're looking for an enthusiastic IT professional to work in a collaborative team environment, building and maintaining enterprise-class business and client-oriented applications using creative and cutting edge technologies. The Senior Software Engineer must also adapt quickly to legacy and evolving architectures in implementing incremental feature improvements and in maintaining existing applications. This position is located at our Sebastopol, CA headquarters office and reports to the Senior Applications Manager. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Design and code software modules and/or systems supporting business requirements. Work with QA and business users to ensure the delivery of high-quality software. Work with business users and IT operations to deploy software into production. Ensure that business process modifications, documentation and training are adequate to support the successful introduction of software modules and tools. Support bug fixes, enhancements and disaster recovery efforts for existing software modules and systems. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Expert knowledge with application development in web-based systems and multi-tier environments, including web application frameworks and systems integration. Expert ability in setting up multi-tier applications on multiple operating systems and platforms. Strong system analysis and design experience. Demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into specifications and working functionality. Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical personnel. Ability to provide technical leadership and training to other team members. Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to work in a collaborative environment and across departments. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proven time management skills. Ability to juggle conflicting priorities while maintaining flexibility to allow for last minute changes. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Four-year college degree in Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent education and experience in relevant field. 8+ years experience in software application development in web-based systems and multi-tier environments. 8+ years experience in either Java OR Python and their associated development frameworks. 5+ years experience administering and/or designing relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle etc). Experience with Agile or Lean software development methodologies. 5+ years experience with web development technologies and standards (HTTP, HTML, CSS, etc.). Demonstrable experience with XML including transformations, querying, and namespaces. Ability to understand and develop RESTful web applications.
