Job Description:

One of my clients in Portland, OR is looking for a QA Automation Test Engineer for a 3+ month project.  This candidate will play a key role in the quality assurance of our client's middle office applications. We are looking for someone who has proven experience with automation of complex applications and a focus on and commitment to automation. This position is in the downtown Portland office with a growing, agile engineering team.

• Create test scenarios and implement automated functional test cases that will serve as acceptance test criteria for enhancements and new applications
• Work closely with developers and quality assurance members to run test suites and research errors
• Work with the support group to reproduce production problems and identify gaps in the regression test suite
• Work with developers to utilize and extend custom test harnesses for applications
• Find ways to enhance the testing process with new tools, strategies or techniques
• Develops and executes test cases
• May develop high level test plans
• Documents problems identified in testing and reports results
• Manages the execution of multiple, complex test plans by preparing assignments, providing training and guidance and reviewing activities to ensure quality standards are met
• Diagnoses system problems and recommends solutions
• Participates in the definition and design of new systems and enhancements
• Serves as a technical, subject matter resource for testing, systems and business line staff
• Performs test preparation activities, including developing test schedules and defining expected test results
• Compares test results to expected results
• Documents and tracks bugs, problems and limitations and retests
• Composes and disseminates software release notes prior to production implementation

Skills/Requirements:

• Advanced knowledge of reusable coding patterns and object oriented paradigms as applied to automated testing tools
• 1-2 years full-time experience writing in-house production tools or test harnesses with a modern programming language, preferably Java/Junit
• One or more years of full-time experience in an iterative development environment using Scrum-like methodologies, with experience of delivering working software to production through the entire lifecycle
• Expert knowledge of SQL and relational databases
• Intermediate to advanced UNIX knowledge including Shell scripting
• Knowledge of XML, HTML, JavaScript and scripting languages
• Strong understanding of source code control, specifically cvs or subversion
• Ability to quickly troubleshoot and diagnose issues within the quality assurance environment and communicate that knowledge to a varied audience of technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Experience testing both client-server and Web based applications through one or more full life cycles of an application
• Proven experience with designing and implementing automated load tests for database-backed applications
• Proven experience supporting the delivery of multiple versions of one or more applications
• Knowledge of financial securities and trading principles, or the strong desire to enter the finance industry
• Team oriented attitude
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Bachelor's degree with concentration in Engineering, Business or Technology preferred
